History

July 1955Sogo Blood Bank, Inc. was founded in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, with the purpose of manufacturing and selling preserved blood.
Mar. 1964With the centralization of transfusion blood handling at the Japanese Red Cross Blood Center, work began on diversifying into clinical testing services.
Aug. 1967A clinical laboratory was established and contracted clinical testing began.
Apr. 1973Japan Clinical Service, Inc. was founded to handle specimen collection and delivery.
Oct. 1975A sales office was established in Toyama City, Toyama Prefecture, and work began on building a nationwide sales office network.
July 1976The company name was changed to Sogo Biomedical Laboratory, Inc. At the same time, the head office was relocated to Nakano-ku, Tokyo.
Sept. 1978Establishment of in-hospital testing facilities to undertake contracted testing work at medical institutions began.
Mar. 1980Manufacturing and sales of our clinical test reagent brand “Monitor G Column” began, embarking on the clinical test reagent manufacturing and sales business.
Nov. 1981A clinical laboratory was established in Toyama City, Toyama Prefecture, and work began on building a nationwide laboratory network.
Jan. 1985The head office was relocated to Suginami-ku, Tokyo. BML General Laboratory was established in Kawagoe City, Saitama Prefecture, as a core facility of the company and work began on integrating testing services and building a total laboratory system.
July 1986PCL Japan, Inc. was founded to handle pathological and cytological tests.
Mar. 1989Merits, Inc. was founded to build medical information systems.
Apr. 1989The company name was changed to BML, Inc.
June 1991Shares of Tokyo Koshueisei Laboratories, Inc. were acquired and the company became a subsidiary.
Nov. 1991The Frontier Automated Dispensing System, an automated specimen receiving, aliquoting, and partitioning system, was completed.
Aug. 1992BML, Inc. was accredited as a complying with the clinical testing laboratory standards of the College of American Pathologists.
Apr. 1993The head office was relocated to Shibuya-ku, Tokyo.
July 1993Subsidiary BML Kanagawa, Inc. was absorbed through a merger.
July 1993Matsudo Medical Laboratories, Inc. was founded as a joint third sector investment with Matsudo City and the Matsudo Medical Association.
Jan. 1995Ehime Medical Laboratories, Inc. was founded through joint investment with the Matsuyama Medical Association.
June 1995The Symphony, an automated total analysis system for general biochemical and hematological tests, was completed.
Jan. 1996Shares of Biomedical Science Laboratory, Inc. were acquired and the company became a subsidiary.
July 1996Shares of Kyodo Igaku Laboratories, Inc. were acquired and the company became a subsidiary.
Aug. 1997The F&S Testing Division was established for food sanitation testing.
Feb. 1998A “Biological Information Analysis Division” was established for Holter electrocardiogram analysis.
Apr. 1998Shares of Kashima Clinical Laboratories, Inc. were acquired and the company became a subsidiary.
Aug. 1998The first Aria Pharmacy was opened in Kashiwa City, Chiba Prefecture.
Oct. 1998The Symphony-Ligand, an automated total analysis system for cancer and hepatitis testing, was completed.
Nov. 1998Shares of Daiichi Clinical Laboratories, Inc. were acquired and the company became a subsidiary.

Oct. 2006A new biochemical general test line using an automated specimen transport robot (new Symphony chemistry) was completed at the BML General Laboratory.
Mar. 2007The dispensing pharmacy business was transferred.
Sept. 2010A joint laboratory for international clinical trials was established with the US company Covance.
Jan. 2011Omiya Clinical Laboratories, Inc. (now Daiichi Kishimoto Clinical Laboratories, Inc., wholly owned by BML, Inc.) was founded.
Apr. 2011Q-syu Open Laboratories, Inc. (66% owned by BML, Inc.) was founded.
Apr. 2011Sales began of Qualis, a new electronic patient chart system for clinics.
Feb. 2012QOL Central Laboratories Co., Ltd. (wholly owned by Q-syu Open Laboratories, Inc.) was founded.
Dec. 2013A representative office was opened in Shanghai, China.
Apr. 2014All shares of Okayama Medicine Laboratories, Inc. were acquired and the company became a wholly owned subsidiary.
May. 2014A stake was acquired (40% at the time, currently 10%) in Shanghai CBML Medical Laboratories, Inc. (China).
Mar. 2015BML Medical Works, Inc. absorbed and merged Merits Support System, Inc. through a merger.
Apr. 2019All shares of The Tohkai Cytopathology Institute were acquired and the company became a wholly owned subsidiary.
